Amazon character counter — with search truncation preview
Count title, bullet and description characters against Amazon’s limits — and see exactly where mobile search cuts your title off.
The 2026 title structure: 75 title + 125 highlights
Since July 27, 2026 Amazon’s title policy for non-media categories allows 75 characters of title, paired with an item-highlights field of up to 125 characters. Amazon shows the pair joined with a “|” it adds itself — in full on the product page, cut in search results: the joined string is cut at roughly 145 characters on desktop, and on mobile the full title shows but the highlights underneath are cut mid-word after roughly 30 characters.
Two rules follow from that. Compose the title and the item highlights as a pair — materials, key specs and top use-cases that no longer fit the title move into the highlights, and terms you don’t repeat from the title become extra indexation surface. And front-load the highlights: the first ~30 characters are all a mobile searcher sees of them, so the most important features go there, not at the end.
Every field, its limit, and what happens over it
Title: 75 characters (non-media categories, since July 2026) — exceeding it risks rejection or search suppression. Item highlights: 125 characters, searchable companion text shown with the title. Bullets: 250 characters each is the safe ceiling across categories (and short bullets convert better). Description: 2,000 characters — still indexed even when A+ Content hides it. Backend search terms: 249 bytes, a different unit entirely — check that field with the backend keyword checker below. These are the same ceilings our pipeline enforces in code on every listing it writes.
Frequently asked questions
How does Amazon count characters — do spaces count?
Yes, spaces count. Limits are counted in characters including spaces and punctuation, and an accented character counts as one character. This counter counts the same way (Unicode code points), so what you see here is what Amazon measures. The one exception is backend search terms, which are measured in bytes — use our backend keyword checker for that field.
What is the Amazon title character limit in 2026?
Since July 27, 2026 Amazon’s title policy for non-media categories allows up to 75 characters, paired with an item-highlights field of up to 125 characters that is shown alongside the title and is searchable. Titles over the limit can be rejected or suppressed from search.
What are Amazon item highlights?
Item highlights are the searchable companion field Amazon introduced with the 75-character title: up to 125 characters shown with the title for materials, key specs and top use-cases that no longer fit in the shorter title. Treat them as extra indexation surface — prefer terms that aren’t already in your title.
How much of my title and item highlights show in Amazon search results?
Amazon displays the two fields joined with a “|” it adds itself. On desktop search results the joined string is cut at roughly 145 characters (at a word boundary, then an ellipsis). On mobile search results the full 75-character title shows, but the item highlights underneath are cut mid-word after roughly 30 characters — so put the most important features in the first ~30 characters of your highlights. On the product page itself, both fields show in full on desktop and mobile. This tool previews all four views live.
How long should bullet points be?
Keep each bullet under 250 characters. Amazon’s enforced ceiling varies by category (some accept 500+), but several categories now index only the first ~1,000 characters across all bullets combined — five focused 200-character bullets outperform five bloated ones both for indexing and for readability.
Does the product description still matter if I have A+ Content?
Yes. A+ Content replaces the plain description visually on the detail page, but the description field still indexes for search — so fill its 2,000 characters with keyword-bearing, readable copy even when A+ is live.
Is my listing copy uploaded anywhere?
No. Counting happens entirely in your browser — nothing is stored or sent to a server, and there’s no signup.
